Biraj Karmacharya, MBBS, PhD

Dr. Biraj Karmacharya is the Director of Global Engagement, and the Director of Public Health and Community Programs at the Kathmandu University School of Medicine. He received his MBBS from Kathmandu University of School of Medicine, and has a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Washington. He has been involved in community-based health program development, rural health program implementation, research and education in Nepal for the last 13 years. He founded and leads the Department of Community Programs at Dhulikhel Hospital. He is the project co-director and co-investigator of the NHLBI-funded study “Translational Research Capacity Building Initiative to Address Cardiovascular Diseases in Nepal”. He is also a co-PI of the Dhulikhel Heart Study, a population-based longitudinal study on cardiovascular diseases in Nepal.
