OUR STORY
Start with care. Then do more.
HELPING MEANS SO MUCH MORE THAN MEDICAL TREATMENT.
We combine care with other support to change lives for the better.
Our partnership is comprised of leading organizations such as Dhulikhel Hospital, Kathmandu University School of Medicine Sciences (KUSMS), the Arnhold Institute for Global Health (AIGH) at Mount Sinai, and so many more.
Together, we start with healthcare for patients, and then do more to empower communities, educate tomorrow’s medical experts and research breakthroughs that will truly change the health of the world.
Our vision
A GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP TO ENSURE HEALTH FOR ALL
We are a global network of academic health centers and universities collaborating with public health systems to ensure essential health for all people. Our model of partnership is replicable for sustainable health systems around the world.
Our hope is that one day all people, no matter where they live and what socioeconomic challenges they face, will have the healthcare and resources they need to thrive in life.
Our mission
AMPATH Nepal improves the health of people in underserved communities by working in partnership with academic health centers, ministries of health and others to build public sector health systems and promote well-being. Guided by the principle of leading with care, we:
Deliver and sustain effective healthcare services
Reduce health disparities and address social determinants of health
Develop and strengthen human capacity through training and education
Advance research that improves health
Strengthen partner institutions
DHULIKHEL HOSPITAL
Dhulikhel Hospital (DH) was founded in 1996 and now serves as the major academic tertiary care and referral hospital for Kavrepalanchowk district and surrounding areas, serving a catchment population of 2.9 million people. The hospital was founded on the principles of social equity in healthcare and is committed to improving access and quality of healthcare not only for patients able to come to the tertiary care center, but also in the rural areas through 18 community-based outreach health facilities.
KATHMANDU UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE SCIENCES (KUSMS)
Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences (KUSMS) was established in 1994 and started the medical school in 2001. KUSMS now provides training programs in nursing, dentistry, medicine, public health, physiotherapy, laboratory medicine, and medical imaging technology. DH is the university hospital for all medical programs run under KUSMS.
THE ARNHOLD INSTITUTE FOR GLOBAL HEALTH (AIGH) AT MOUNT SINAI
The Arnhold Institute for Global Health (AIGH) at Mount Sinai believes that global health is local health and envisions a world where vulnerable people in every community have access to health care. They are an academic institute that develops and evaluates global health solutions which can be replicated at scale. The AIGH specializes in global health systems and implementation research. Their global research programs generate evidence about how to build and sustain better health care systems.
THE AMPATH CONSORTIUM
The AMPATH Consortium is a network of academic health centers that aims to foster long-term, equitable and cross-cultural partnerships with host health centers and universities that serve populations with significant unmet needs. Each institution brings their own perspective and provides its own opportunities for medical trainee exchange programs and hands-on education, in the U.S., Canada and across the globe.
Indiana University leads the AMPATH Consortium.
